First, you’ll need to get a Google gmail account (free). Then go to: http://www.google.com/analytics/ and sign in.

You need to set up a new Google analytics account using your website’s URL. This process is quick. At the end of it, Google will give you a snippet of Javascript code which must be embedded into your website (typically in the Footer area). There are also plugins to do this in WordPress (I recommend Google Analytics for WordPress by Yoast : http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/google-analytics-for-wordpress.4.0.13.zip ) If you use the plugin, you just install it and then verify within the plugin. If you do it manually, you need to paste the Javascript code into your footer.php area. Some Themes have an area for this type of code.

It may be easier doing a server install and installing the Google Analytics for WordPress plugin that way. You simply select the manually enter UA code checkbox and you’re good to go.

If you want to find a closing head tag in a document however, just click and hold ctrl + f and then type the following into the search field: “” (obviously you need to do this while in your browser).

If that doesn’t work then maybe there isn’t one…in which case you should insert one before the tag.
